Child Visas
These are permanent visas allowing an eligible parent sponsor their child to live in Australia indefinitely. In order to be eligible the parent sponsor must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen. You can apply onshore or offshore. If you apply offshore, you will be need to be offshore at the time the visa is granted and vice versa if you are onshore.

- Offshore Child (subclass 101).
- Onshore Child visa (subclass 802).
Adoption
This visa permits an adopted child to live in Australia with their eligible adoptive parents. In order to sponsor a child the adoptive parent must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen. This is an offshore application and the child must be living out of Australia at the time of application and when the visa decision is made.

- Onshore Child visa (subclass 802).
Orphan Relative
This visa permits a child to travel to Australia and live permanently with their sponsoring relative who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen. You can apply onshore or offshore. If you apply offshore, you will be need to be offshore at the time the visa is granted and vice versa if you are onshore
Which visa subclass?
- Offshore Orphan Relative visa (subclass 117).
- Onshore Orphan Relative visa (subclass 837).
Parental responsibility
The sponsoring relative must be able to produce evidence of the following:
- You have the written consent of each person who can legally decide where the child lives
- The laws of the child’s home country permit the removal of the child
- Is consistent with any Australian child order.
